Gordon "Moose" Sherritt was born in Oakville, Manitoba on April 8th 1922. Sherritt, a big, strapping defenseman played his Junior hockey in Portage then spent his first professional season playing in Britain before returning to North America for two years of Senior hockey then a campaign in the American Hockey League before making the leap to the National Hockey League in 1943.
Sherritt joined the Detroit Red Wings during the 1943-44 season and played eight games with the club. Sherritt was unable to record a point during his short time in Detroit but he did amass 12 penalty minutes.
Sherrit's career continued in the minors. He finished that year in the AHL and spent all of the next one there then moved on to the United States Hockey League where he spent part of fours seasons with the Minneapolis Millers before retiring from the game in 1949.
