Eddie Wares made a living as a professional hockey player from 1935 until 1951, playing with eleven teams in seven different leagues during his career. He played a total of 321 regular-season NHL games, scoring 60 goals while collecting 102 assists.
Beginning in 1941, Wares was an instrumental force with the Detroit Red Wings. However, the war effort saw him miss three NHL seasons. Upon his return to the NHL, Wares joined the Chicago Blackhawks, playing in 45 and 60 games, respectively.
