But at the professional level, he found it difficult to land a consistent post with one team. He started out with the Detroit Red Wings' organization in 1989-90. He split his first two campaigns between the Motor City and Adirondack of the AHL. Then, he finally got his most stable stretch of NHL duty, playing two full years on the Wings' blueline. His offensive production was fairly solid for a young rearguard, but nonetheless, he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in1993?a move that set his nomadic trend in motion.

Over the five seasons that followed, Racine served as a spot-duty, utility defender for the Flyers, Canadiens, Sharks, Flames, and Lightning. He left the NHL for good after the 1997-98 campaign in Tampa Bay.

Since then, he has established a second career for himself in Europe where he represented Jokerit in Finland and most recently, Mannheim in Germany.
