Born: Dec 15, 1957
Birthplace: Elmira, ON, Canada
Drafted: BUF / 1977 NHL Amateur Draft
Round: 1st (14th overall)
Younger brother to longtime NHLer Rod Seiling, Ric was selected 14th overall by the Buffalo Sabres as their first choice in the 1977 Amateur Draft. After contract negotiations, the Sabres signed Seiling and made the announcement at a racetrack. The Seiling family owned the Seiling Stables and Ric grew up to harness racing heroes rather than hockey legends.

Seiling played junior hockey in the OHA for Hamilton with the Red Wings and Fincups where he enjoyed great success winning the Memorial Cup in 1976. He moved on to the St. Catherines Fincups for the 1976-77 season where he played 62 games scoring 49 goals and 61 assists for 110 total points. After representing Canada in the 1977 World Junior Championships in Czechoslovakia and finishing with a silver medal, Seiling began his NHL career with the Sabres.

The first two seasons saw a steady increase in point production for Seiling while he enjoyed career highs in the 1979-80 season with 35 assists and 60 points. The next season was one with a serious eye injury that seemed to slow down his point production for the rest of his career. He was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for the 1986-87 season where, at season's end, he retired from the NHL.

Seiling played for the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings for the 1987-88 season before hanging up his skates for good. He went back to his first love, horse racing, and become a driver in harness racing.
