Andre St. Laurent spent three seasons with the Montreal Jr. Canadiens, where, in his last year, he amassed 100 points in only 64 games. The Islanders in the 1973 amateur draft selected him.

He made his NHL debut in the 1973-74 season, splitting the year between New York and the team's CHL affiliate, the Fort Worth Wings. St. Laurent made his first appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs the next season when the Islanders went all the way to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual Cup winners, the Flyers, in seven games.

After two more seasons in New York, St., Laurent was traded to the Red Wings in 1977 and enjoyed his most productive year collecting 70 points in 77 games. The 1979-80 season saw St. Laurent on the move again as he was dealt to the L.A. Kings, a team for whom he would play four years. St. Laurent was claimed off waivers by the Penguins in 1982 but ended up back in Detroit the next year for one last stint in the NHL. After a season in the AHL with the Adirondack Red Wings, St. Laurent retired from the game in 1985.
