Acquired: Traded to Detroit by New Jersey for Lee Norwood and Detroit's fourth-round choice (Scott McCabe) in 1992 NHL draft on Nov. 27, 1990.
Drafted: NJD / 1984 NHL Entry Draft
Round: 4th (74th overall)
Paul Ysebaert played collegiate hockey with Bowling Green University and was the 74th overall choice in the 1984 NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils. He was a second team all-star in college during the 1986 and 1987 seasons. He played five games for the Canadian National Team after the 1986-87 college season had ended. His pro career began with the Utica Devils of the AHL in 1987-88.

He made his NHL debut with New Jersey in 1988-89, appearing in five games, while continuing his apprenticeship with Utica. The next year also saw Ysebaert appear in five NHL games with New Jersey while playing most of the year in Utica.

Ysebaert began the 1990-91 year with New Jersey and was traded to the Red Wings after eleven games with the Devils. He enjoyed his best career season as a member of the Red Wings, in 1991-92, with 35 goals and 75 points in 79 games.

He had quick acceleration and was well balanced on his skates, making him difficult to knock off the puck. His quick release and accurate shot saw him post consecutive seasons of plus-30 goals prior to being traded to the Winnipeg Jets prior to the 1993-94 season. He was on the move to Chicago before the end of the season and was moved again the following year, from the Blackhawks to Tampa Bay.

Ysebaert never again reached the numbers posted with the Wings but he was able to become a consistent veteran presence for the Lightning during his time with the club.
