Though most of his first season was spent in the minors, Crawford did play 15 games with the Rockies that season and was able to score 1 goal and 3 assists. The 1981-82 season was spent entirely in the minors where Crawford scored 23 goals and 54 points. Despite his success in minor pro, Crawford was not resigned by the Rockies and hit the free agent market. In June of 1982 Crawford signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Crawford spent all but one game that year in the minors with the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League. In his one game call up for Detroit, Crawford was held of the score sheet. He retired from hockey at season's end.
