Mark Major was a 6-foot-3, 223-pound left winger who created scoring chances by forechecking and battling for position in front of the opposition's goal. He was a capable goal-scorer who spent much of his time engaging the toughest foes in junior and the minor leagues.

The Toronto native played junior with the North Bay Centennials and Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL and was taken 25th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1988. A Over the next six years Major toiled in the IHL and AHL and signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins. After coming to terms with the Detroit Red Wings, he played two games for the club in 1996-97 before he was returned to Adirondack of the AHL. In August 1997 the hard-nosed forward signed with the Washington Capitals and remained in the AHL with the Portland Pirates in 1997-98. He continued to toil on several minor league teams and began the 2001-02 season with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
