The Toronto native played junior with the North Bay Centennials and Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL and was taken 25th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1988. A Over the next six years Major toiled in the IHL and AHL and signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins. After coming to terms with the Detroit Red Wings, he played two games for the club in 1996-97 before he was returned to Adirondack of the AHL. In August 1997 the hard-nosed forward signed with the Washington Capitals and remained in the AHL with the Portland Pirates in 1997-98. He continued to toil on several minor league teams and began the 2001-02 season with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
