Boston Bruins goaltender Andrew Raycroft may get another shot at shutting down the Detroit Red Wings as the teams play for the second time in four days.

Raycroft was outstanding Wednesday as he played the biggest role in ending Detroit's four-game winning streak and 12-game home unbeaten streak. He made 36 saves for his second career shutout in Boston's 3-0 victory at Joe Louis Arena.

Raycroft, who endured an 0-5-2 stretch to close December, followed up his victory over Detroit by making 31 saves in a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh the next night. The Bruins will be playing three games in four days, including Saturday's afternoon start, but it's possible coach Mike Sullivan could stay with his hot goaltender instead of starting Felix Potvin at the FleetCenter.

The consecutive victories have given the Bruins a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) after they won just once in their previous seven (1-5-1).

"We have urgency and nothing else, but two points is acceptable right now," Raycroft said. "If we had come out here tonight and lost 2-1 or 3-1, it would have been all for naught after our effort last night."

The last time the Bruins won two straight was Nov. 14-15. They were winless in nine home games last month (0-5-4).

"It is nice to turn things around because December was a tough month for us," said Bruins forward Sean O'Donnell, who had a goal against the Penguins. "Detroit was easy to get up for, but tonight was more difficult to get up for mentally."

While Boston played the night after beating Detroit, the Red Wings have been idle. Detroit still holds a seven-point lead atop the Central Division.

The rested Wings will be looking to get even in what amounts to a home-and-home series for them.

"We had total control of the game the first period. Their goaltender was outstanding in the first period," said Detroit coach Dave Lewis, whose team outshot Boston 13-3 in the opening 20 minutes. "They capitalized on their one chance. The wrong guy got the chance."

Brett Hull is probably the Red Wings player most desperate to solve the Bruins goaltending in the teams' second meeting. The right wing has failed to score in 15 games, the longest drought of his career.
