After snapping the worst goal-scoring drought of his career, Brett Hull looks to continue helping out the NHL's best offense as the Detroit Red Wings visit the Phoenix Coyotes at Glendale Arena.

Hull scored at 1:03 of the second period Thursday, helping the Red Wings to a 5-4 win over Los Angeles Kings. The goal was the first in 21 games for Hull, the third-leading goal scorer in league history behind Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe. It was also his 17th of the season and 733rd of his career.

"Brett had a smile from ear to ear," said Detroit defenseman Mathieu Schneider, who had two goals. "I'm sure it weighed on him a little bit, but you couldn't tell by the way he was in the dressing room around the guys and the way he plays out there.

"He's one of the most unselfish guys. He's not really pressing and shooting all the time, he's always moving the puck and dishing it."

The Red Wings, who snapped a three-game winless streak (0-1-2), already lead the league with 161 goals despite Hull's recent slump. However, after the Kings scored twice in the final 6:15 of regulation, their offensive dominance almost wasn't enough.

"I don't know that it's a win we should be particularly thrilled with," Detroit captain Steve Yzerman said. "We allowed four goals, we gave up too many chances in the third period and relied too much on our goaltender to win the game."

Detroit rookie defenseman Niklas Kronwall broke his right ankle during warmups Thursday and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

The Coyotes are coming off Thursday's 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, snapping a five-game winless streak (0-3-2). Brian Boucher made 34 saves, and Ladislav Nagy scored the game-winner for Phoenix, which had not won since Boucher recorded his NHL-record fifth straight shutout on Jan. 9.
