Red Wings-Oilers Preview

GAME: Detroit Red Wings (35-16-8-2) at Edmonton Oilers (25-26-9-1).

TIME: Monday, 9 p.m. EST.

The Detroit Red Wings are riding their special teams right to the playoffs.

The Wings will try to extend their winning streak to four games when they take on the Edmonton Oilers in the opener of a three-game road trip.

Detroit, which has won six of seven and leads the Central Division by 11 points over Nashville, has benefited all season from its terrific special teams and Friday's game was no different. Henrik Zetterberg had two power-play goals and an assist, leading Detroit to a 5-1 victory over St. Louis.

Zetterberg has four goals and eight assists in his last nine games.

"I think on the same line (with Brendan Shanahan and Tomas Holmstrom), that's a big key," Zetterberg said.

Kirk Maltby scored Detroit's league-leading 15th short-handed goal and St. Louis was 0-for-5 on the power play

"I don't think you expect the other team to go on the attack when you have a power play," Zetterberg added.

Detroit center Kris Draper is second in the NHL with five short-handed goals, one more than Maltby.

Manny Lagace is 3-1 with a 2.01 goals-against average in four starts since starter Curtis Joseph injured his right ankle against San Jose on Feb. 11.

After this game, the Red Wings make stops in Vancouver and Calgary before returning home to play Philadelphia on Feb. 29.

The Oilers will be trying for their third straight win over an elite Western Conference team.

After losing 2-1 to Detroit last Monday, the Oilers bounced back with victories over Colorado and Vancouver.

Eric Brewer scored at 3:56 of overtime to give the Oilers a 4-3 victory over the Canucks on Saturday.

Edmonton, which is just 29th in the league on the power play, was 2-for-5 on Saturday and has scored with the man advantage in a season-high four consecutive games.
