Stars-Red Wings Preview

GAME: Dallas Stars (26-12-2) at Detroit Red Wings (28-10-3).

TIME: Sunday, 5 p.m. EST.

The Detroit Red Wings try to run their unbeaten streak against the Dallas Stars to 10 games when the teams meet at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings have four wins and five ties in the last nine meetings between the teams and haven't lost to the Stars since a 3-2 defeat on Jan. 16, 2002.

Both teams enter this game with consecutive wins, but Detroit is 7-1-0 in its last eight games while Dallas is 4-3-1 over that span.

In the Red Wings' 3-1 win over division-rival Nashville on Friday, Nicklas Lidstrom scored two power-play goals and Manny Legace made 29 saves to win his second game in as many nights following his return from a knee injury.

The victory moved Detroit six points ahead of second-place Nashville and improved the Red Wings to 13-1-0 against the Central Division this season.

"We know the battle in our division is with Nashville," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "We attacked the net well. I thought this was a good road win for us."

Legace, who hadn't played since Nov. 25 before beating St. Louis 3-0 on Thursday, could find himself backing up Chris Osgood against the Stars. Osgood is 24-9 with three ties and a 2.27 GAA against Dallas, his most wins against any opponent.

Stars goalie Marty Turco hasn't had the same success against the Red Wings.

Turco, whose career 2.00 GAA is the lowest among active goalies, hasn't beaten Detroit in 10 career starts, registering five losses and five ties. His 2.89 GAA against the Red Wings is the highest of any opponent he's faced at least 10 times.

Behind backup Johan Hedberg, the Stars bailed Turco out Friday by rallying from a three-goal deficit to beat Anaheim 4-3 in a shootout. Hedberg stopped all 16 shots he faced in regulation and three of four in the shootout, which was won by Antti Miettinen in the fourth round.

Turco allowed three goals on 10 shots in the first period and was pulled for the second time this season.

"It's disappointing for my teammates, who rely heavily on me, to spot some goals like that," Turco said. "There's no excuses."

Brenden Morrow scored twice in the third period, including a short-handed goal at 1:35 that cut Anaheim's lead to 3-2.

"(The short-handed goal) didn't really go where I wanted it to go but it found a hole," Morrow said. "It kind of got the momentum going a little bit."
