Red Wings-Stars Preview

GAME: Detroit Red Wings (33-13-4) at Dallas Stars (33-15-2).

TIME: Saturday, 2 p.m. EST.

Dallas goaltender Marty Turco has won more than 120 regular-season games in his five-year NHL career. He is still trying to find a way, though, to beat the Detroit Red Wings.

Turco will likely try again to earn his first win against Detroit as the Pacific Division-leading Stars face the conference-leading Red Wings at American Airlines Center.

A member of the Canadian Olympic team, Turco has 121 wins with a 2.03 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

But in 11 career appearances against Detroit, he has recorded five losses and five ties with a 3.08 GAA and .885 save percentage. Turco is winless other against one other team, losing his only career start against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In his last start against the Red Wings on Jan. 8, he allowed three goals in just over 21 minutes of play before being pulled in favor of Johan Hedberg. Dallas rallied for a 6-3 win.

Turco has won his last three starts overall, stopping 71 of 77 shots in that span. He made 37 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped the final two shootout attempts in a 3-2 win Thursday over the Colorado Avalanche.

"We were fortunate to win in a shootout," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "Marty was excellent and he made some big saves for us, and we found a couple of ways to score."

Rookie Jussi Jokinen improved to 7-for-7 in shootouts and Sergei Zubov also scored for the Stars, which are 7-0 in shootouts.

The Red Wings, who are looking for their sixth win in seven road games, are coming off a 2-1 home win Wednesday over the Vancouver Canucks.

Nicklas Lidstrom scored and Brendan Shanahan tallied the 100th game-winning goal of his 18-year career and is fourth all-time behind only Gordie Howe, Phil Esposito and Brett Hull.

"It's a nice milestone. I don't really care about most of them. But that's a big build up," said Shanahan, who has three career game-winning goals against the Stars.

Shanhahan has 32 goals and 25 assists in 69 career games versus the Stars, but has been held off the scoresheet in his last four games against them.
