Red Wings-Blackhawks Preview
Associated Press

GAME: Detroit Red Wings (43-15-5) at Chicago Blackhawks (20-34-9).

TIME: Sunday, 7 p.m. EST.

The Detroit Red Wings look to win their seventh straight game over the Chicago Blackhawks for the first time in more than a decade when they wrap up a home-and-home series at the United Center.

The Western Conference-leading Red Wings have not won seven straight over Chicago since Jan. 27, 1994-April 14, 1995.

Detroit scored three goals in each of the first two periods to defeat Chicago 6-4 on Saturday, and the Red Wings have outscored the Blackhawks 22-11 in five games this season.

Future Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman had his first two-goal game of the season, and has three goals and an assist in his last four games.

"He works every shift even though I think every morning he wakes up his body is sore and aches," said Chicago's Martin Lapointe, a former teammate of Yzerman's. "But he shows up every game, works hard, blocks shots and leads the team. It's pretty to watch."

Yzerman has two goals and three assists against the Blackhawks this season, and has 153 career points against Chicago, tied with Toronto for his most against any opponent

"He's still one of the best leaders in the game," Chicago coach Trent Yawney said. "I wouldn't judge him by what he's done so far this year in terms of statistics, but I would watch in the playoffs what he does for this team."

Henrik Zetterberg scored his team-high 32nd goal of the season Saturday, and has five goals in his last four games.

Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist against Chicago, and has a nine-game point streak with five goals and nine assists in those games. He also has a six-game point streak against the Blackhawks with two goals and seven assists in that span.

Goaltender Manny Legace made 25 saves on Saturday, and is 9-2-0 with a 2.71 goals-against average since Jan. 30.

Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was pulled in just his second start after missing 12 games with a sprained left knee. He allowed five goals on 20 shots, and has just seven wins in 25 starts against the Wings with a 3.18 GAA in those games.

Matthew Barnaby had a goal and an assist against Detroit, giving him two goals and two assists in his last three games.

The Blackhawks have lost four of their last five games, and are tied with the St. Louis Blues for the fewest points in the Western Conference.
