Blue Jackets-Red Wings Preview
Associated Press

GAME: Columbus Blue Jackets (27-40-3) at Detroit Red Wings (48-15-6).

TIME: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. EST.

The surging Detroit Red Wings look to win their sixth straight game over the Columbus Blue Jackets as the Central Division rivals meet at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings are 21-4-1 all-time against the Blue Jackets, including a 10-2-0 mark at home.

In winning all five matchups this season, Detroit has limited Columbus to just seven goals, and goaltenders Manny Legace and Chris Osgood have each recorded shutouts.

Legace stopped 17 shots in a 6-0 win Oct. 22. Osgood had a 26-save performance in a 4-0 victory Jan. 18.

Legace extended a career-high with his sixth shutout of the season in the Red Wings' 4-0 win Thursday over San Jose.

"I just had to stand there, basically," said Legace, who made 28 saves. "I made a couple of tough saves when it was 3-0 and 4-0. I really didn't have to do much."

Legace is 11-2-1 with a 2.45 goals-against average and three shutouts since Jan. 30. Lifetime against Columbus, Legace is 8-3-1 with a 1.98 GAA and two shutouts.

Defenseman Mathieu Schneider, who has posted career-bests in goals (21) and points (55) this season, has scored in each of his last three games against the Blue Jackets.

Forward Tomas Holmstrom also is riding a points streak, having recorded three goals and two assists in his last five games.

The Wings have won 15 of their last 18 games and are tied with Ottawa for the league lead with 102 points.

Columbus snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win Friday over Calgary. Jason Chimera tallied his fourth game-winning goal of the season and career-high 15th marker overall with 2:47 to play.

"I like the way they played with a lot of character tonight," Blue Jackets coach Gerard Gallant said. "We really battled hard. We have 12 games left and I expect this kind of effort in every one of them."

Veteran defenseman Adam Foote had nine assists entering the contest, but tied a career-high with three in the win.

Goalie Marc Denis is just 3-16-1 in 21 career games against the Red Wings. He is 0-3-0 with a 7.95 GAA against them this season, having allowed 15 goals in 113 minutes, 11 seconds.

Columbus needs three wins in its final 12 games for a new franchise-best.
