Red Wings-Wild Preview
Associated Press

GAME: Detroit Red Wings (50-15-8) at Minnesota Wild (34-33-7).

TIME: Sunday, 3:30 p.m. EDT.

The last time the Detroit Red Wings recorded 51 wins during the regular season, they won the Stanley Cup.

The Red Wings will try to match the win total from the historic 2001-02 season as they visit the Minnesota Wild.

A victory would also equal Detroit's franchise-best eight-game road-winning streak, established Feb. 4-March 9, 2002.

The Red Wings have an NHL-high 108 points and have already clinched their 15th consecutive playoff appearance.

Detroit scrambled for a point in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to lowly Chicago. The Red Wings outshot the Blackhawks 17-7 in the third period, and Pavel Datsyuk tied the game with just 46 seconds left in regulation, but Patrick Sharp beat Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood in overtime.

"It was positive that we found a way to get a point," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "I didn't think we had a whole lot of energy. It didn't look like we had a lot of jump."

Steve Yzerman's first-period goal was the 691st of his career, moving him ahead of Mario Lemieux for eighth on the NHL's all-time list. Yzerman, who trails seventh-place Mark Messier by just three, also has four goals and five assists in a seven-game points streak.

"He doesn't really talk about his accomplishments too much," Osgood said about Yzerman, who didn't speak to reporters. "He seems to be getting better and better for the playoffs."

Osgood stopped 31 shots, but the Red Wings fell to 2-8 in games decided past regulation.

The Red Wings are 1-for-17 on the power play in their last four games and will be hard-pressed to snap out of that slump against the Wild, who boast the league's best penalty-killing squad.

Marc Chouinard scored in regulation, and Mikko Koivu had the only goal of the shootout Friday to give Minnesota a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The Wild, who won for just the fifth time in their last 16 games, are 11th in the Western Conference.

Manny Fernandez, making his career-high 12th consecutive start, stopped 22 of 23 shots in the first two periods before the Wild's defense tightened and limited the Canucks to six shots in the third period and overtime.

"They didn't get more than one goal in the first two periods because of Manny," said Wild coach Jacques Lemaire. "They could have got a lot more."

The Red Wings have five wins and two ties in their last eight games against the Wild.
