Wings seek revenge against Blackhawks
Brian Compton  - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

BLACKHAWKS (23-9-3) at RED WINGS (18-13-5)

Last 10: Chicago 7-3-0; Detroit 5-4-1.

Season Series: This is the third of six meetings between the "Original Six" rivals. Chicago won the first two games -- a 3-2 victory in Detroit on Oct. 8 and a 3-0 win on Sunday night at the United Center.

Big Story: Detroit will be seeking revenge in this one after failing to get any of its 20 shots past Cristobal Huet on Sunday. It won't be easy given the Red Wings' depleted lineup, as several of their key players are currently injured, including Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen.

Team Scope:

Blackhawks: Only one person stood in the way of what would have been a five-game winning streak for Chicago -- Evgeni Nabokov. The San Jose Sharks goaltender made 45 saves on Tuesday night as the Blackhawks suffered a 3-2 loss at the United Center. Chicago outshot the Western Conference leaders, 47-14.

''We outshot them, but we couldn't create the top, top chances,'' Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa said. ''We tried to shoot from bad angles and chaos in front of the net, but their goalie played well.

''We have to learn from this. We have to be more poised with the puck and trust each other more.''

Red Wings: Detroit will be looking to end a two-game skid on Wednesday night after suffering back-to-back losses to Dallas and Chicago, respectively. Chris Osgood made 32 saves in the most recent loss to the Blackhawks.

"I thought they (Chicago) had the puck most of the game," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "On back-to-back nights, we knew were going to have to play well defensively and we knew our goaltending was going to have to be outstanding.

"They're a deep team right now and we're not a very deep team right now. Matchup-wise, it was tough for us."

Who's Hot: Hossa and Patrick Kane each had a goal and an assist on Tuesday. Hossa is 6-6-12 in 13 games since returning from a shoulder injury. Cristobal Huet had a shutout streak of 143:31 before Dany Heatley beat him in the first period on Tuesday. … Wings forward Drew Miller has seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in his last 15 games.

Injury Report: Blackhawks forwards Adam Burish (torn ACL) and Dave Bolland (back) will not play Wednesday. Ben Eager (upper body) and Cam Barker (lower body) are day-to-day. … Red Wings who won't be in the lineup Wednesday are: Valtteri Filppula (wrist), Jonathan Ericsson (knee), Henrik Zetterberg (shoulder), Daniel Cleary (shoulder), Niklas Kronwall (sprained MCL), Jason Williams (fractured fibula), Johan Franzen (torn ACL) and Andreas Lilja (post-concussion syndrome).

Stat Pack: Chicago has scored only three times in its last 36 power-play opportunities, while Detroit went 0-for-2 on the power play on Sunday and is 4-for-53 (7.5 percent) in its last 15 games. Osgood is 1-4-2 in his last seven appearances.

Puck Drop: "It's one of those games where we needed some ugly goals, and we didn't get any. Every game is different." -- Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville after Tuesday's 3-2 loss to San Jose
