Osgood aims for No. 400 against Stars

STARS (19-10-3) at RED WINGS (20-8-3)

TV: Fox Sports-Southwest; Fox Sports-Detroit.

Last 10: Dallas 6-2-2; Detroit 5-4-1.

Season Series: This is the second of four meetings between the teams. Dallas earned a 4-1 victory against Detroit on Oct. 14 at the American Airlines Center.

Big Story: Chris Osgood, who is going for his 400th career victory, is expected to get the starting nod against the Stars. The three-time Stanley Cup winner and likely Hall-of-Famer would become only the 10th goaltender in NHL history to accomplish the remarkable milestone. Detroit coach Mike Babcock switched things around so that Osgood -- who was drafted by the club in 1991 -- could attempt to notch No. 400 at Joe Louis Arena.

"I think that can motivate the whole team, knowing he's only one win away from 400," Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom told the Detroit Free Press.

Team Scope:

Stars: Dallas improved to 13-2-3 in one-goal games on Saturday night, thanks to a pair of goals by center Brad Richards in a 2-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Richards netted the winner at 6:17 of the third period on a wrister from the top of the left circle that beat Mathieu Garon while the teams were each a man down.

Dallas has earned points in 11 of its last 13 games (9-2-2) and sits atop the Pacific Division.

"I had some good speed," Richards said of his game-winner. "I think he (Garon) was cheating a little bit to Loui (Eriksson). I think he thought I was going to pass. I saw that and just because I had speed I shot it."

Red Wings: Detroit lost for the second time in its last three games with Friday's 4-1 loss at Chicago. The Wings trailed 2-0 before the 5-minute mark, as Bryan Bickell beat Jimmy Howard with a wrist shot 4:32 into the contest.

"They got started, it was a fair game, (and) they played harder than we did for longer," Babcock said. "You need 20 guys to win, and we didn't have it tonight. With some of their injuries, they were more desperate and they looked more desperate. We've got nobody to blame but ourselves for this."

Who's Hot: Richards' goals on Saturday were his 13th and 14th of the season. He also has 23 assists. Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves against the Blue Jackets for his 14th victory. … Pavel Datsyuk leads the Wings with 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists) in 31 games.

Injury Report: Detroit will be without veteran forward Mike Modano, who is expected to be out until March due to a severed tendon in his right wrist.

Stat Pack: Dallas has killed off 42 of the last 47 power plays. … Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi is a minus-9 in his last seven games. Detroit did not have a power play on Friday night for the first time since April 1, 2004.

Puck Drop: "We've been playing hard, and we know the points are really important right now. We're playing with a little bit of confidence, too. That's how the games are right now … they're hard and physical. You have to work really hard to get the point, and we got the two points tonight." -- Stars forward Loui Eriksson after Saturday's 2-1 win at Columbus
