Florida Panthers 1, Detroit Red Wings 4 FINAL
Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) -- Pavel Datsyuk just keeps on producing and amazing his teammates.

The third-year center scored his seventh goal in five games and added an assist, and Curtis Joseph stopped 21 of 22 shots to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-1 victory Monday night over the Florida Panthers.

Kirk Maltby, Mark Mowers and Mathieu Schneider got the other goals for the Red Wings. Lukas Krajicek scored for Florida, getting his first NHL point.

Datsyuk, selected Monday as NHL offensive player of the week, has five assists in his last five games and leads the NHL with 39 points. His 18th goal tied him for second with Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk.

"The players have always said he doesn't know how good he is," Red Wings coach Dave Lewis said. "The things he does, nobody else does. And that's real unusual for an athlete."

Joseph stopped Nathan Horton from in close in the opening two minutes and foiled Stephen Weiss on a point-blank tip and rebound attempt during a Panthers' power play early in the second period.

"You need that kind of goaltending," Schneider said. "He made the big saves for us."

Maltby's short-handed goal broke a 1-1 tie at 6:57 into the second period.

As Krajicek skated in front of his own net with the puck, Maltby knocked it off of the Florida defenseman's stick and past goaltender Roberto Luongo.

"He just saw me at the last minute and tried to make a move," Maltby said. "I poked it and it had enough on it to get through Luongo's pads."

The goaltender defended Krajicek.

"Those things happen. He's a young guy," Luongo said. "Hopefully, he learned his lesson. He's got to keep his head up and learn from it. That's all he can do."

Mowers' goal came on the power play 5:09 into the third period when he tipped in a shot by Brendan Shanahan. Schneider added an empty-net goal with 58.3 second left

Datsyuk opened the scoring 6:34 in when his backhand shot from the slot beat Luongo high to the glove side. It came after he took a pass on his forehand. But he spun around and put in the backhander.

"I've never seen a goal like that," Lewis said.

Schneider gushed about Datsyuk.

"This guy has just gotten more and more confident," Schneider said. "And on an everyday basis, he's amazing us."

Krajicek tied it for Florida with 3:49 left in the first period with a power-play goal. His slap shot from the point went in off the skate of Detroit's Jiri Fischer.

Florida was short-handed six times.

"You can't kill that many penalties. It was one after another. Guys get worn out," Panthers' coach Rick Dudley said. "For two periods, we were a pretty good hockey team."
