Nashville Predators 0, Detroit Red Wings 6 FINAL
Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) -- Curtis Joseph has given the Detroit Red Wings a big lift in place of the injured Dominik Hasek.

Joseph made 26 saves for his 43rd career shutout and Jason Woolley and Kris Draper each scored twice in Detroit's 6-0 victory over Nashville on Monday night.

Joseph is 10-5-1 this season with two shutouts.

"Certainly, things are going well, no question about it," said Joseph, who had been sent to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League before Hasek was hurt again. "Just trying not to think about it and keep it going."

Joseph has carried the Red Wings in goal since Dec. 10, with Hasek out for the third time with a groin injury. Detroit had been trying to deal Joseph since Hasek came out of retirement in June. Joseph also had ankle surgery in mid-August.

Woolley also had an assist, Nicklas Lidstrom and Ray Whitney each had a goal and an assist, and Steve Yzerman had two assists.

"Obviously, you look at how the beginning of the season started," said Woolley, who has seen increased playing time with Derian Hatcher sidelined by a knee injury. "I really kept a good attitude and I'm proud of the way I handled that."

Detroit beat Nashville for the first time this season after losing the first three against the Predators.

Joseph's saves included big stops on Rem Murray from the bottom of the left circle and David Legwand on a partial breakaway in the middle of the second period.

"I thought he was outstanding," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said, praising Joseph. "I really liked his tracking skills tonight, the way he followed the puck."

Draper opened the scoring 7:34 in when he took Yzerman's pass from the boards in front of the net, made a move and put the puck into the empty side of the net.

Draper, one of the NHL's top defensive centers already has a career-high 18 goals. His previous high was 15 in 2001-02.

"I don't know. Just kind of going to the net," he said. "It's an opportunity, getting more ice time."

Woolley made it 2-0 with 2:32 remaining in the first period, beating goalie Tomas Vokoun with a wrist shot.

Lidstrom gave the Red Wings a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal 9:42 into the second period. His slap shot from the high slot beat Vokoun high on the glove side.

Woolley added his second goal, 4:26 into the third period. It was his first two-goal game since April 2, 2001, at Florida, while he was with Buffalo.

That goal also chased Vokoun in favor of Chris Mason.

"This definitely wasn't a good game by me," Vokoun said. "We let them score on almost every chance they got."

Draper got his second goal with 6:16 remaining and Whitney scored with 3:32 left.
