DETROIT (AP) - An overtime goal helped the Detroit Red Wings forget several mistakes.

Robert Lang scored 1:39 into overtime Wednesday night to give Detroit a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings after the Red Wings blew a two-goal lead late in the third period.

"We made some mistakes, but I thought it was a good game for our team to play," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "It was at a high level."

Tomas Holmstrom added two goals for Detroit (14-2-1) to give him seven in his last four games. Steve Yzerman and Johan Franzen each had a goal for the Red Wings and Dan Cleary and Mathieu Schneider each had two assists.

Alexander Frolov had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles (10-5-1), while Mike Cammalleri, Jeremy Roenick and Craig Conroy each had a goal.

The Kings outshot the Red Wings 41-39, the most each team has allowed in a game this season.

"A lot of scoring chances," Los Angeles defenseman Aaron Miller said. "Not exactly the kind of game we were trying to play, but entertaining. Still, we got a point."

Lang scored his sixth goal of the season by putting in a cross-crease pass from Andreas Lilja.

"The puck came to me, I got my stick on it," Lang said. "And it went in the net. Nothing special, nothing pretty."

Frolov tied the game 4-4 with 3:48 left in regulation when he stole the puck from Jiri Fischer, made a move around goaltender Manny Legace and put the puck into an empty net.

Holmstrom scored his first goal 16 seconds into the third period to give Detroit a 3-1 lead. He stripped Tim Gleason of the puck as the defenseman skated past the Kings' net. In the same motion, Holmstrom popped the puck over Los Angeles goaltender Jason LaBarbera

Roenick's power-play goal at 4:15 of the period made it 3-2. He beat Legace with a slap shot from the inside edge of the left circle.

Holmstrom's second goal made it 4-2 with 6:41 remaining when he tipped in a pass from Pavel Datsyuk.

Holmstrom has been playing on a line with Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg.

"Just give the puck to Hank (Zetterberg) or Pavel and go to the net," Holmstrom said. "... It's lots of fun on our line now."

Conroy scored on a rebound 25 seconds later.

Franzen's short-handed goal with 7:26 left in the second period gave Detroit a 2-1 lead.

"Mistakes that we made and they capitalized," Los Angeles coach Andy Murray said. "That's the kind of team they are. I liked our compete and our battle tonight."

Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead 3:31 into the game on Cammalleri's power-play goal. He beat Legace from the left circle with a low wrist shot. Yzerman tied it with his first goal of the season at 8:18, when he tipped in a pass from Schneider.

Although they only outshot the Red Wings 16-11, the Kings soundly outplayed Detroit in the first period. Only several key saves by Legace allowed the Red Wings to get out of the period tied.

Notes: Legace returned after missing three games with a sprained knee. ... Kings C Derek Armstrong returned after missing five games with a groin injury. ... It was Yzerman's first goal since March 21, 2004. ... Cammalleri played at the University of Michigan. ... Gleason is from Clawson, a Detroit-area suburb. ... Datsyuk stretched his point streak to 10 games (4-13-17).
