SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Panthers wasted another late lead. This time, they recovered.

Olli Jokinen scored a power-play goal 1:36 into overtime, pushing Florida past the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 Thursday night.

Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg tied the score with 1:02 left in regulation, but the Panthers found a way to bounce back. Florida has lost six games this season after giving up the tying goal in the final minute.

"It's good for your confidence to be able to win these games, especially against a team like Detroit," said Jokinen, who scored his fifth game-winning goal of the season. "All the games are like playoff games the rest of the year."

It was Florida's first win over Detroit since Dec. 1, 1996. The Panthers were 0-8-5 since.

"We haven't beat them in three or four years since I've been here," said Jokinen, who has been with the Panthers since 2000-01. "Let's put it this way: Thank God it's over."

Gary Roberts and Rastislav Olesz also scored for the Panthers, who have won four of five at home. Roberto Luongo made 34 saves for Florida.

"We've been playing really well the last couple games at home and we just have to carry it on the road," Luongo said. "We haven't won on the road in a while. It was a good effort. It was a playoff-type game and the crowd was loud."

Dan Cleary had the other goal for the Red Wings. Chris Osgood made 27 saves but lost for the first time in 17 games in the state of Florida (11-1-5).

"They took advantage of an opportunity they were given in overtime," Osgood said. "We played a pretty good game. We can't be down about the way we worked together."

With Mathieu Schneider in the penalty box for tripping, Jokinen scored 13 seconds into the power play when he beat Osgood with a slap shot from the point.

"I have to give the credit to the other guys on the ice," Jokinen said. "(Stephen) Weiss won the faceoff and Nathan (Horton) kept the puck in and Roberts, without him that puck wouldn't have gone in, he did an unbelievable job again in front of the net. I think those three guys should get credit for the goal."

Zetterberg sent the game into overtime with a power-play goal with 1:02 left in regulation. With Juraj Kolnik in the penalty box after he closed his hand on the puck, Zetterberg skated in uncontested from the side of the net and fired a shot over Luongo's right shoulder.

"I took everything away except for that and he just banked it off the post," Luongo said. "The guy has a lot of patience and a knack for scoring big goals and he scored a big one there."

Olesz had given Florida a 2-1 lead at 12:39 of the third when he beat Osgood with a wrist shot from just outside the faceoff circle.

Roberts, who didn't practice Wednesday because of a hip injury, opened the scoring with his second goal in three games at 15:37 of the second period. He took a cross-ice pass from defenseman Sean Hill and fired a shot over Osgood's right shoulder.

Cleary tied it 1-1 at 6:45 of the third period when he grabbed the rebound of Valtteri Filppula's dump-in and put a shot between Luongo's legs.

"I thought we took steps tonight and did a lot of good things," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "You want to win, but we did a lot of good things. We had a lot of good players tonight and so did they."

Notes: Florida C Joe Nieuwendyk (back) missed his second consecutive game because of back problems. ... Filppula, recalled from Grand Rapids of the AHL on Wednesday, made his NHL debut. He became the first Finnish player to play for the Red Wings. ... The Panthers recalled C Kamil Kreps from Rochester of the AHL.
