ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings' five Swedish Olympic players wasted little time getting back up to speed after their gold-medal celebration.

Swedish stars Tomas Holmstrom and Henrik Zetterberg scored in a 46-second span in the first period and Chris Osgood made 24 saves in the Red Wings' 2-0 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Wednesday night.

Holmstrom and Zetterberg were among five Detroit players who returned to the lineup after helping Sweden beat Finland in the gold-medal game Sunday in Turin. Nicklas Lidstrom, Mikael Samuelsson and Niklas Kronvall also played for Sweden.

Without the Swedes, NHL-leading Detroit fell 5-1 at San Jose on Tuesday night.

"They made a huge difference. I didn't know what to expect, we have a tired hockey club," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "I didn't know if we would have any vapor."

After a 30-hour flight from Stockholm, where the Swedish team celebrated its gold medal win, the five returning players wasted little time contributing.

Seven minutes into the opening period, Holmstrom found himself with the puck alone in front of Anaheim goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere. The Swede swiftly moved to the backhand to loft in his 20th goal of the season.

"Tonight it was a three Red Bull game," Holmstrom said. "The legs felt good, but the concentration was tough. Of course, its easier when you have the lead."

Working on a power-play less than a minute later, Zetterberg swiped in a rebound of Lidstrom's shot from the point to make it 2-0.

"I was kind of surprised that the legs felt pretty good," Zetterberg said "I was right back in it and played a lot in the first period. That helped me get into the game."

Pavel Datsyuk extended his point and assist streaks to five games with an assist on Holmstrom's goal.

Anaheim captain Scott Niedermayer started the game, just 16 days after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

"It feels fine. I'm just happy to get back on the ice," Niedermayer said. "We were off in the first period. To give up a two-goal lead like that, it's hard to come back."

Osgood has two shutouts this season and 43 overall.

"I felt good from the start," said Osgood, playing for the first time since Jan. 30. "Moving around early helped me."

Giguere was not pleased with his team's early play.

"We need to be more prepared than that, there are no excuses," Giguere said. "We knew they were going to come out pretty hard."

Anaheim was 0-5 on the power play.

"We were frustrated by our lack of offensive punch," coach Randy Carlyle said. "We had our chances, but didn't finish."

Notes: Anaheim center Andy McDonald's points streak ended at 11 games. It was the longest active streak in the NHL. ... Ducks defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh returned after missing 20 games while undergoing substance abuse counseling. ... The Ducks acquired minor league goalie Jani Hurme from Atlanta in exchange for minor league center Joel Stepp before the game.
