Red Wings 3, Stars 2
Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings are simply unbeatable these days.

Tomas Holmstrom's power-play goal with 44.3 seconds remaining capped Detroit's three-goal third period, rallying the Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday night.

Johan Franzen and Andreas Lilja also scored and Henrik Zetterberg added two assists for Detroit, which trailed 2-0 before stretching its winning streak to eight games. The Red Wings also made it 20 consecutive games (17-0-3) with at least a point, since their last regulation loss on March 7.

"The first two periods weren't pretty," Holmstrom said. "But we hung in there and battled back against a good team."

Manny Legace stopped 28 shots in the win.

Jason Arnott had a goal and an assist and Jere Lehtinen also scored for Dallas.

"It's a couple of individual mistakes that cost us the game," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "That's the bottom line."

Holmstrom tipped in a shot by Zetterberg for his 29th goal.

The win gave the Red Wings 124 points (58-15-8), the fifth best total in NHL history.

"Among the top five teams all time, that's special," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said.

With Detroit trailing 2-0, Franzen put the Red Wings on the scoreboard when Kronwall's shot from the point deflected off him with 6:59 left in the third period. It was Franzen's 12th goal.

Lilja tied the game with 4:47 left in regulation with his second goal when he converted a pass from Zetterberg from the inside edge of the left circle.

"Our first two periods weren't really good," said Kronwall. "And Dallas sat back in the third period and we came on."

Arnott opened the scoring with 5:50 left in the first period with his 32nd goal. He dove and knocked the puck past Legace from the side of the net.

"The first two periods were better and then we kind of backed off a little bit," Arnott said. "We relaxed a little too much and it costs us."

Stu Barnes nearly scored for Dallas with 30 seconds remaining in the opening period, but it was ruled that the whistle had blown before he stuffed Brenden Morrow's rebound past Legace.

Lehtinen added his goal, his 33rd, on the power play 3:22 into the third period when he tipped in a pass from Arnott.
