Red Wings 6, Kings 2
Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) -Detroit showed that persistence pays, especially when the Red Wings face the Los Angeles Kings.

Detroit got goals from six players Sunday night in a 6-2 win over Los Angeles, the Red Wings' 12th straight victory over the Kings.

After struggling on offense early in the season, the Red Wings scored at least five goals for the fifth time in their last 13 games.

"It just wasn't going in for us," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "But you just have to keep at it."

Pavel Datsyuk and Jason Williams each had a goal and an assist, and Tomas Holmstrom, Valtteri Filppula, Kris Draper and Mikael Samuelsson also scored for the Red Wings.

Mathieu Schneider added two assists and Dominik Hasek made 28 saves for Detroit.

Alexander Frolov scored both of the Kings' goals.

Los Angeles tied it at 1 on Frolov's first goal, a power-play score 1:55 into the second period. He backhanded a rebound over a prone Hasek.

Detroit then scored twice in less than two minutes.

Filppula scored at 4:50 when the rebound of his shot deflected in off his skate as he slid toward the net. Datsyuk gave the Red Wings a 3-1 lead at 6:40, when he beat Mathieu Garon with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle for his 10th goal.

Frolov's second goal and 21st of the season brought the Kings to within one with 7:18 left, when he blasted a slap shot from the high slot past Hasek.

"When it was 3-2, we had momentum," said the Kings' Sean Avery. "But they took it away, that's what good teams do."

Draper restored Detroit's two-goal lead with 2:48 remaining in the middle period, when he completed a 2-on-1 break by knocking Johan Franzen's pass into the net.

"I thought we responded real well after their second goal," Red Wings' captain Nicklas Lidstrom said.

Samuelsson got a power-play goal 4:27 into the third period, and Williams added his tally at 5:26. The Kings then pulled Garon in favor of Barry Brust.

"It was just a matter of guys doing responsible things," Draper said. "And it was good to see a lot of guys chipping in."

Holmstrom opened the scoring 5:45 into the first period when he tipped in a touch cross-crease pass from Henrik Zetterberg. That completed a three-way passing play that began with Datsyuk's feed across the slot to Zetterberg.

"They got a lot of traffic in front of the net," Garon said. "We got away with it in the first period."

Notes: Detroit D Chris Chelios missed his second game with a lower body injury. ... Los Angeles LW Scott Thornton missed his second game with a wrist injury. ... Samuelsson returned after missing six games with a groin injury.
