GAME: Colorado Avalanche (32-20-6) at Detroit Red Wings (38-13-5).

TIME: Sunday, 5 p.m. EST.

The Detroit Red Wings want to head into the Olympic break with the league's best record. To do that, they will have extend their recent dominance over their most bitter rival.

The Red Wings look for their sixth win in a row overall when they take on the Colorado Avalanche, winners of three straight, in the teams' final matchup before the break for the Turin Olympics.

Detroit also is looking for its sixth straight win over Colorado. The Red Wings have outscored the Avalanche 19-7 win the last five wins, including two shutouts.

Detroit also won five in a row from Colorado between March 14, 1999-March 18, 2000

The matchup also features the Western Conference's most potent offense against its stingiest defense. Colorado has scored 210 goals while Detroit has allowed just 139.

The Red Wings completed a home-and-home series sweep from the Nashville Predators with a 3-2 win on Thursday as U.S. Olympic defenseman Mathieu Schneider capped a three-goal rally with less than seven minutes to play in the third period.

Detroit also posted a 6-0 victory Wednesday over its Central Division rivals in Nashville.

"After they took four points from us back home, we wanted to come back and answer, which we were able to do," Detroit center Kris Draper said of the team's back-to-back losses Jan. 23-24 to Nashville.

Detroit has scored 20 goals during its current five-game winning streak. Swedish Olympic selection Henrik Zetterberg was held off the scoresheet in the last game, but has three goals and five assists during the Red Wings' current streak.

An Olympian helped Colorado to its third win in a row Friday. Rookie Marek Svatos scored twice less than three minutes apart in the third period of the Avs' 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Svatos, who will play in Turin for Slovakia, also tied the NHL record for game-winning goals by rookie (nine) set during the 1982-83 season by Steve Larmer of the Chicago Blackhawks.

"We've seen that a lot this year," Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville said of Svatos. "He's been very effective for us this year, even when he didn't score."

Detroit and Colorado will send 19 players representing 10 of the 12 countries participating in ice hockey at the Olympics.
