Ducks-Red Wings series shifts to Detroit
Anaheim Ducks vs. Detroit Red Wings

(Best-of-7 series tied 1-1)

Big story: Will the Anaheim Ducks rebound after yielding an early overtime in Game 2, or can the Detroit Red Wings take control of this Western Conference quarterfinal series?

Team Scope:

Ducks: Anaheim scored a pair of power-play goals and an empty-netter to claim Game 1 of this series, but the Ducks were able to break through at even strength in Game 2. Nicklas Lidstrom isn't patrolling the Detroit blue line anymore, but the Wings still have a reputation as a sound defensive team.

When the Ducks fell behind 4-1 in Game 2, they were forced to push more offensively -- but they also found out that doing so could coax the Red Wings into some mistakes.

"There a good hockey team, and you have to apply the pressure in order to create opportunities for yourself," Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf said. "They did that early in the game to us and we took some penalties that were caused by their work and from that we built and came out hard in the third period and did the same to them. That enabled us to get back in the hockey game."

Although he gave up five goals on Thursday, Jonas Hiller will get the call again in goal.

"He's playing tomorrow," coach Bruce Boudreau said Friday. "I thought there was some great saves and some saves he should have had, but I don't think on a couple of them the work in front of him was very good either.

Red Wings: Detroit had all kinds of injury problems throughout the regular season, but the Red Wings were close to being healthy as the postseason began and the results on the ice showed. That said, the Wings were dealt another blow after Game 2 because rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser is likely out for the remainder of the playoffs with a broken thumb.

Fellow rookie Brian Lashoff, 22, will replace DeKeyser in the lineup, coach Mike Babcock told reporters.

"It's a big loss," Babcock said. "It's hard to believe a kid out of college would be a big loss, but he is. He's played real well for us. We just have to keep on going. That's the playoffs.

"[Lashoff] is just smart. He knows how to play and he competes hard. He makes a good first pass and he's a good penalty killer."

DeKeyser was the most sought-after college free agent after a standout career at Western Michigan, and he had quickly established a place in Detroit's top six.

Who's hot: Including the regular season, Getzlaf has at least one point in five straight games. Johan Franzen has six goals in his past six contests for the Red Wings, including a pair in Game 2.

Injury report: Defenseman Luca Sbisa (lower body) missed the final six games of the regular season and has yet to play in this series for the Ducks. … Before the injury to DeKeyser, Detroit was already without forwards Darren Helm (back) and Drew Miller (hand).
