Wings back indoors as they pay visit to Stars
Detroit Red Wings vs. Dallas Stars

RED WINGS (18-14-10) at STARS (20-13-7)

Last 10: Detroit 3-5-2; Dallas 6-2-2

Season series: Rich Peverley scored at 4:41 of overtime to lift the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 victory against the Red Wings on Nov. 7 at Joe Louis Arena in the first of the two-game season series between former Western Conference opponents.

Big story: Detroit hasn't strung together more than two wins since a four-game winning streak that stretched from Nov. 24 against the Buffalo Sabres to Dec. 1 against the Ottawa Senators. The Red Wings have also lost two games in a row and three of their past four. Dallas lost 6-4 against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night, but that was the Stars' first regulation defeat since Dec. 16, an eight-game span.

Team Scope:

Red Wings: Detroit is still hampered by a glut of injuries. Three lineup regulars are on injured reserve and several others are dealing with issues that keep them questionable from game to game. Detroit called up rookie defenseman Alexey Marchenko for the start of a four-game road trip because Danny DeKeyser is battling a groin issue.

In their most recent game, the Red Wings dropped a 3-2 game in a shootout against the Toronto Maple Leafs in front of more than 105,000 snow-covered fans at the 2014 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic, held New Year's Day at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Red Wings fell to 1-7 in shootouts this season and have lost 12 of their past 13 shootouts when including last season's results.

"I was really mad," forward Tomas Tatar, who lost the puck off his stick during his attempt, told's Ansar Khan. "Maybe I should have tried something simpler instead of trying to stick-handle. Maybe I should have gone down and shot it, but that's not my style. I like to stick-handle a bit."

Stars: Despite heating up on the ice recently, the only temperature gauge the Stars are interested in right now is the one taken by a medical thermometer. Dallas is being ravaged by winter illnesses, which are collectively being labeled "flu," and could be without a handful of players against the Red Wings, including centers Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley, the latest duo to show symptoms.

"I’ve seen where five or six guys have been out at one time, and there's not a darn thing you can do about it," coach Lindy Ruff told Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News. "You've got to get through it. It's something a lot of teams deal with, and we'll get through it."

Defenseman Sergei Gonchar (concussion) hopes to play against Detroit but Ruff appears to be playing it safe, wanting Gonchar to get a couple more practices in prior to returning.

Who's hot: Henrik Zetterberg has points in three straight games since returning from an extended injury absence for the Red Wings. ... Jamie Benn has seven goals and three assists in his past 10 games for Dallas, including goals in four of the past five games and at least a point in five straight.

Injury report: Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson (fractured rib) and forwards Stephen Weiss (sports hernia surgery) and Johan Franzen (concussion) are on injured reserve for the Red Wings, who likely will be without DeKeyser (groin) and forward Darren Helm (groin) and might not have forward Daniel Alfredsson (groin). Forward Pavel Datsyuk had a "maintenance day" and missed practice prior to leaving for the road trip. ... Defensemen Stephane Robidas (broken leg), Trevor Daley (lower body) and Gonchar (concussion) are on injured reserve for Dallas, which could also be without several regulars listed as day-to-day because of illnesses.
