DETROIT (AP) _ Brett Hull let only his familiar grin show what his latest milestone meant to him.

Hull tied Dave Andreychuk's NHL record with his 263rd career power-play goal and Kris Draper scored twice to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday night.

Hull scored on a one-timer _ the same way he has netted countless goals _ to give Detroit a 2-0 lead in the second period.

He chose not to talk with reporters after the game, and didn't say anything to Draper on the bench after scoring.

``I was sitting beside him when he came off and I said, `Did you realize that?' and he just kind of gave me the Brett Hull smile,'' Draper said. ``It was in typical fashion, too, with his one-timer.''

Hull, who has 737 goals in 18 seasons, moved past Marcel Dionne for third on the NHL career list with his 732nd on Dec. 8. He trails only former Red Wings great Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).

``Just think if Brett could really shoot,'' Howe joked.

Detroit's lineup of likely Hall of Famers seemingly reaches a milestone each week.

``I've spent so much money buying guys gifts for 500 goals, 600 goals, 700 goals or 1,000 points,'' said Mathieu Dandenault, who gave Detroit a 1-0 lead in the first period. ``But this one I'll just give him a pat on the back.''

Hull's goal came from the right circle off a pass from Henrik Zetterberg. He has 21 goals, eight on power plays, this season. Andreychuk has scored three power-play goals this season for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who did not play Wednesday.

Three goals were scored midway through the third period in a span of just over three minutes.

Phoenix's Chris Gratton had a goal, then Detroit's Mathieu Schneider scored before Fredrik Sjostrom got the Coyotes within 3-2.

Draper gave Detroit another two-goal cushion when his slap shot trickled past Brian Boucher with 1:50 left.

``The one I'm mad about is the last one,'' said Boucher, who stopped 29 shots. ``It was 3-2 and I put the nail in the coffin.''

Draper added an empty-netter a minute later for his 23rd goal of the season.

Detroit's Manny Legace made 24 saves.

The Central Division-leading Red Wings are 6-1-2 in their last nine games while Phoenix has won only one of its last 11 games (1-8-1-1).

``It was a good effort for 50 minutes, but the last 10, we made mistakes and it cost us,'' Gratton said.

Playing his third position in three games, Dandenault scored midway through the first period. He was back at defense after playing center and wing in the two previous games.

``It was weird,'' he said.
