Detroit Red Wings 2, Vancouver Canucks 4 FINAL

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ If Daniel Sedin wasn't feeling good about himself before, he is now.

Sedin scored all four Vancouver goals to lift the Canucks to a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old Swedish winger completed his first career hat trick with 6:58 left, giving the Canucks a 3-2 lead, then added his fourth into an empty net with 34 seconds left.

Sedin now has nine goals and 14 points in his last nine games.

``If you don't get more confidence from this, I don't know when you'll get confidence,'' Sedin said.

On the go-ahead goal, Todd Bertuzzi dropped the puck between his legs at center ice to Henrik Sedin, who quickly snapped a pass to his identical twin streaking down the right wing. Daniel cut behind Detroit defenseman Jiri Fischer and drove to the net on his backhand, then flipped the puck over Manny Legace on his forehand.

``I didn't think at all,'' said Sedin, adding he hadn't scored four goals since he was 11 or 12 years old. ``I just tried to get it to the net and was lucky the goalie went down.''

Daniel opened the scoring on a nifty deflection at the side of the net in the first period, and tied it 2-2 on a one-timer from the slot midway through the second. He hit the crossbar with 3:44 left before scoring into the empty net.

``When he's hot, he's hot,'' said Canucks defenseman Marek Malik after setting up the first two goals. ``He seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Good things happen. He's got talent for sure. It looks like today was his day.''

Defenseman Nolan Baumgartner also had two assists, and Dan Cloutier made 31 saves for the Canucks. They won for just the third time in 10 games to close within three points of Colorado in the Northwest Division and four behind Detroit for top spot in the Western Conference.

All three wins come against top teams _ the Canucks also beat Colorado and New Jersey _ while six of the seven recent losses have been against non-playoff teams.

``Now we know we can win if we work hard against any team in the league,'' Daniel said. ``I think that's the recipe now, to work hard.''

Henrik Zetterberg and Kris Draper scored for the Red Wings, who were playing for the second straight night after a 1-1 tie in Edmonton.

They seemed to tire a little in the third period, especially after losing veteran defenseman Chris Chelios to a shoulder injury late in the second.

``With Chelly going down in the second period we were down to five defensemen, and we spent a lot of time in our own end,'' said Nicklas Lidstrom. ``I thought that made us more tired.''

Chelios appeared to injure his left shoulder after Bertuzzi fell on him following a faceoff in the Red Wings' end. The 42-year-old defenseman lay on the ice in obvious pain while a trainer attended to him. He left the ice clutching his left forearm or shoulder and went to the dressing room.

Detroit coach Dave Lewis said Chelios was day to day, but ``probably won t play in Calgary on Thursday night.''

``I don't know what the term is, it's like a strain or something,'' Lewis said. ``We re going to wait till tomorrow and see how he feels.''

Legace made 26 saves as the Red Wings lost for just the second time in the last 12 games. He wasn't happy about Sedin's third goal.

``The goal I let in kind of deflated everything,'' Legace said. ``I have to make those saves in tight games, in big games like this.''

Sedin opened the scoring, but the Red Wings converted their first two chances with the power play against Vancouver's top-ranked penalty kill.

Zetterberg was alone in front for a fortuitous bounce off the leg of Brett Hull late in the first period.

Draper gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead with a shot from the top of the left circle that bounced off defenseman Bryan Allen as he tried to block it and beat a screened Cloutier.

Sedin tied it again midway through the second period, just seconds after defenseman Nolan Baumgartner shot wide after deking out Legace on a breakaway. Malik pounced on the loose puck behind the net and fed Sedin streaking to the goal for a one-timer between Legace's legs.
