ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Even Disneyland doesn't have roller coasters like this one.
Sergei Fedorov scored his second goal of the game on a power play seven minutes into the third period Sunday, giving Anaheim a 8-6 victory over his former team in the highest-scoring game in Mighty Ducks history.
The Ducks set a franchise record, scoring five goals in 10 minutes, 4 seconds _ spanning the first and second period _ to erase an early three-goal deficit.
The Red Wings responded with a second three-goal outburst to take a 6-5 lead early in the third period on a goal by Ray Whitney.
After Vitaly Vishnevski tied the game for Anaheim at 6 at 2:17 of the third period, Fedorov slammed in a pass from Keith Carney that Rob Niedermayer (four assists) partially deflected as it went through the slot to put the Ducks up for good.
``It was wild,'' said Fedorov, booed every time he touched the puck early in the game by the large contingent of Red Wings fans in the building. ``Both teams left their goalies alone and played wide-open hockey.''
Anaheim's Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 51 saves, tying a franchise record for a regular-season game.
``If a goalie gives up six goals you'd say he stinks, but he played outstanding for us,'' said Anaheim captain Steve Rucchin.
Rucchin scored his second goal of the game into an empty net to secure the first win by Anaheim against Detroit this season after sweeping the Red Wings in the opening round of the 2003 playoffs.
``It was just that kind of game tonight,'' added Giguere. ``It was an '80s kind of game.''
Joffrey Lupul and Rucchin scored in the first period, and Samuel Pahlsson, Fedorov and Petr Sykora in the second for the Ducks.
Pavel Datsyuk, Brett Hull and Steve Yzerman had scored within the first 6:31 of the game to put Detroit ahead 3-0.
Detroit responded to the five-goal Anaheim outburst by tying the game late in the second period on goals by defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom and Jamie Rivers.
``It was like a high-speed exhibition game, it was wide open,'' said Detroit coach Dave Lewis.
Datsyuk scored on a wrist shot from the right circle 2:59 after the opening faceoff. Working on a power play two minutes later, he moved a slick backhand pass across the slot to Hull for a tap-in goal.
Yzerman fired the puck along the ice to Giguere's left to make it 3-0.
``Under different circumstances it would be very tough to come back against a team like that,'' said Fedorov, who skated in Detroit for 13 seasons before signing with Anaheim as a free agent last summer.
His two-goal, one assist effort Sunday gives him 29 goals and 62 total points for the season. He has eight goals and three assists in his last 10 games. ``We stayed focused and did what we had to do.''
The Ducks began their rally with Lupul tipping in a goalmouth pass from Fedorov on a power play at 13:54 of the first and Rucchin swiping in a rebound 1:24 later.
``We just got careless,'' said Yzerman. ``We've got three of our main defensemen out, but that's no excuse. It was just careless of us.''
The Red Wings had 23 shots against Giguere in the first period and 41 through two periods.
Anaheim tied the game on a one-timer by Pahlsson from the slot at 2:10 of the second. Fedorov knocked in a rebound 26 seconds later and that was the end of the night for Detroit goalie Manny Legace, who allowed four goals on 12 shots.
``I didn't feel the greatest, but I didn't feel bad,'' said Legace. ``The goals I gave up, there wasn't much I could do about them.''
Sykora greeted Curtis Joseph with a goal at 3:58 of the second period.
