DETROIT (AP) - Brendan Shanahan broke out of his scoring slump and sent the Rangers away pointless for the first time in seven games.

Shanahan's second goal of the game snapped a third-period tie and the Detroit Red Wings beat New York 4-3 on Saturday.

Robert Lang and Johan Franzen also scored for the Red Wings.

Jaromir Jagr, Michael Nylander and Jed Ortmeyer had the goals for the Rangers, who had earned at least a point in seven straight games.

Shanahan broke a 2-2 tie when he poked his own rebound over sprawled goalie Henrik Lundqvist less than six minutes into the third period. It was Shanahan's 22nd goal of the season.

"The last few games before I scored, the coaches really gave me a lot of positive feedback," he said. "They liked the way I was playing. They were giving me a lot of positive feedback, so I didn't worry about it."

He had four assists in Thursday night's 6-3 win over Philadelphia.

"He's a great player," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "He's skating. It's great to see."

Franzen tipped in a pass from Kris Draper with 5:21 left.

Babcock credited the line of Kris Draper, Franzen, and Kirk Maltby, who matched up against New York's top line of Jagr, Martin Straka and Martin Rucinsky.

"We were reactive, as opposed to proactive," Rangers coach Tom Renney said. "We were always trying to respond. In the offensive zone, I thought we were the better team than they were. But off the attack, they were outstanding. They kept getting odd-man rushes."

Ortmeyer got his goal with 2:26 remaining.

"We gave ourselves a chance, but we just ran out of time," New York center Dominic Moore said.

Detroit scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead, but New York got a goal late in the period to tie the score.

Lang's power-play goal 7:45 into the second tied the game 1-all. Shanahan scored 52 seconds later to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead. His knuckleball of a shot from the right circle bounced off the blocker and stick of Lundqvist and into the net.

But Nylander tied the game with 14.6 seconds left in the second, when he put in a shot from the left circle.

Jagr, the NHL's scoring leader, had the only goal of the first period.

He put a one-time shot past Manny Legace from the bottom of the left circle with 1:15 remaining. Jagr has 29 goals.

"We played a patient game and we were fortunate to get a couple at the end," Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios said.

Ortmeyer played college hockey at Michigan from 1999-2003 and played several games each season at Joe Louis Arena. ... It was Detroit's last regular-season game against an Eastern Conference opponent this season.
