CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Pavel Datsyuk and Jason Williams made it look shockingly easy.

After Detroit shooters had been stymied for 65 minutes by Miikka Kiprusoff's 41 saves, Datsyuk and Williams opened the shootout with consecutive goals to give the Red Wings a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Monday night.

Datsyuk and Williams scored on similar moves.

Datsyuk started it with a deft backhand-to-forehand move that fooled Kiprusoff. After Matthew Lombardi was stopped by Chris Osgood, Williams followed with nearly the same move. Jarome Iginla failed on Calgary's next shot, ending the game.

"That's tough for Miikka," said Lombardi who was stopped on his shootout attempt, along with Iginla. "He played such a good game and then to have that at the end."

It was the Red Wings' ninth straight road win and 28th win away from home, tying the NHL record set by the New Jersey Devils in the 1998-99 season.

"Four games in five nights and playing a good defensive team on the road, we must be doing something right," said Red Wings coach Mike Babcock.

Steve Yzerman scored the only goal of regulation for Detroit, which has lost just once away from home since Jan. 10 (14-1-1).

"We're playing tight defensively right now and that's what we want to maintain over the last little bit of games here," said Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood, who had 27 saves. "We want to continue keeping things simple, playing hard, and get on a roll heading into the playoffs."

Rookie defenseman Dion Phaneuf scored for Calgary, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

The Flames have a three-point lead over the Colorado Avalanche in the Northwest Division race.

Detroit nearly won it in overtime when it had a power-play chance 41 seconds in. Kiprusoff turned away three shots, and Nicklas Lidstrom fired a slap shot off the post before the advantage was cut short by a penalty to Robert Lang.

Kiprusoff was sensational all night.

In the opening minutes of the second, Kiprusoff slid across the crease and jabbed out a pad to thwart Henrik Zetterberg twice at the side of the net after he had been set up for a one-timer on a perfect cross-ice pass from Datsyuk.

"I had a lot of chances, but somehow he was able to keep the puck out," said Zetterberg, who was a teammate of Kiprusoff's at Timra of the Swedish Elite League during last year's lockout. "I'm certainly going to hear about tonight when I talk to him the next time."

With Manny Legace getting the night off, Osgood got the start for Detroit.

"We just came in and tried to play a simple road game and that's what's helped us be successful on the road this year," said Osgood. "We're doing the little things right and finding ways to win games."

Trailing 1-0, Detroit tied it at 6:12 of the second period.

Datsyuk lost a faceoff deep in the Flames zone but promptly stripped the puck from Flames defenseman Roman Hamrlik leaving a drop pass to Yzerman whose quick shot beat Kiprusoff.

Playing his best hockey of the season, the 40-year-old Detroit captain extended his scoring streak to nine games with five goals and six assists.

Calgary opened the scoring with 40 seconds left in the first period during a delayed penalty call.

After prolonged pressure in the Detroit zone, Tony Amonte ended up with the puck in the corner. He sent the puck to Phaneuf in the slot for a quick shot inside the goal post.

Phaneuf's 18th of the season tied the franchise record for goals by a rookie defenseman set by Gary Suter in 1985-86.

Notes: Calgary won the season series 2-1-1. ... The Flames, Vancouver, and Minnesota are the only teams with multiple wins against the Red Wings. ... Amonte hasn't scored in 30 games. Calgary C Stephane Yelle has gone 33 games without a goal. ... Detroit has seven 20-goal scorers while Calgary has just three - Iginla, Daymond Langkow, and Chuck Kobasew. ... Langkow played in his 700th NHL game.
