DALLAS (AP) -The Dallas Stars made up for that debacle in Detroit.

Only four days after a pathetic performance against the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings, shot-happy Dallas overcame an early deficit and took its only lead when Trevor Daley scored on his own rebound 1:51 into overtime for a 5-4 victory Monday night.

"When you're pushing people and prodding and thinking you can be better, games like this prove it," coach Dave Tippett said.

In a flurry of activity in front of Detroit goalie Chris Osgood, Daley took a shot that got knocked down but was still on the ice when he followed up for his fourth goal of the season - and Dallas' only lead to end Detroit's six-game winning streak.

"It hits me, the guys crashed the net and jammed away and it ends up behind me," Osgood said.

That was the Stars' 49th shot, their most in a regular season game since February 1997. The five goals were the most Dallas scored against Detroit since a month before that.

The Stars, who trailed 3-1 after the first period, forced overtime when Steve Ott scored a power-play goal with 3 minutes left in regulation. Ott took a crossing pass from Mike Ribeiro and knocked the puck into the left side of the net when Osgood was unable to recover.

Detroit beat the Stars 6-1 last Thursday night, when Dallas goalie Marty Turco was pulled after allowing four goals in two periods.

Turco then allowed two goals on consecutive shots midway through the first Monday. And Marian Hossa's power-play goal later made it 3-1.

Still, the Stars never felt they were out of this game.

"We came in the room (between periods) and didn't want the same situation to happen again," Ribeiro said. "We were mad. We wanted to finish our checks and get loose pucks. We were playing much better than Detroit. ... We have to play with energy."

Less than a minute into the second period, Stephane Robidas scored from the top of the right circle less. And only an incredible save by Osgood 2 minutes later prevented a tying goal then.

Ribeiro took a shot from the right side toward a seemingly open net. But Osgood made a diving recovery to get his glove on the puck, sweeping it into his body and keeping it out of the net. The play was reviewed, and officials said the puck never completely crossed the line under Osgood.

Osgood had a season-high 44 saves.

"We wasted a good effort by him. We got a point but we should have had two. I thought he played phenomenal," Dan Cleary said. "Every chance they got it on net and created traffic in front of the net. And eventually it paid off for them."

Turco had 26 saves and is now 4-11-5 in his career against the Red Wings.

Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings, giving him 18 points the last 11 games.

The Red Wings led 4-3 with 14:41 left when Datsyuk worked the puck most of the length down the left side of the ice, shed defender Darryl Sydor and scored.

Dallas almost had a tying goal right after that but James Neal's shot hit the crossbar, bounced straight down in front of the line and was secured by Osgood after Loui Eriksson swiped and missed the puck.

"We got off to a good start, but they took the game over," coach Mike Babcock said. "We didn't execute very good and that let to their momentum. ... Give them credit. They got beat in our building bad and they responded with a good effort and we weren't as good as we should have been."

Brian Rafalski scored from just inside the blue line to start the scoring. Less than 2 minutes later, Datsyuk made a backhand pass to Tomas Holmstrom, who had an open net for a 2-0 lead.

The Red Wings led 3-1 when Hossa, set up by the goal inside the Dallas defenders on a power play, poked a shot through Turco's skates.

That came only 1:42 after Nicklas Grossman's first career goal, and only 11th point, in his 110 regular season games. Grossman scored a goal against Detroit in the playoffs last season.

"I like the way our guys hung in there. Gross' goal was big for us. It gave us a little life going into the second period," Tippett said. "We felt like we were going to be aggressive, throw pucks and the net and good things were going to happen."

Notes: It was Turco's 420th game for the Stars, matching Cesare Maniago (1967-76) for the most by a goaltender in franchise history. Turco was already the career leader in wins (224) and shutouts (34). ... Detroit overtook Boston for the NHL lead in goals scored at 157. ... Red Wings D Chris Chelios, who turns 47 later this month, was a healthy scratch for the third straight game. ... Mark Parrish's goal for Dallas late in the second period tied the game at 3-3.
