Athantasiou continues to impress in his first season with Barrie. The 18-year-old playmaker netted the game-winning marker in his last outing, a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Sudbury (click HERE for video highlights) this past Saturday. Athanasiou has now scored six goals in five October appearances and has already been named First Star of the Game three times this month. The Colts have won their last seven decisions and currently lead the Central Division with a record of 8-2-0.

Described by Barrie head coach and former NHL sniper Dale Hawerchuk as a “game breaker with good speed and skill”, Athanasiou ranks second on the Colts in scoring behind only Mark Scheifele, a top prospect of the Winnipeg Jets. Hawerchuk acknowledges that Athansiou needs to work on the defensive side of his game but lauds the talented winger for his tremendous character and insatiable desire to learn as much as possible from the Hall of Fame center.
